Redi Ant knows to remain  calm during a disaster. Being prepared for different types of disasters is the best way to survive one. He also knows the different kinds of natural disasters. They are Floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and wildfires. Redi Ant knows that when it is cold outside, he needs to dress in layers to stay warm and safe.

During thunderstorms, Redi Ant says to stay away from trees. He knows flashfloods happen very quickly and with short warning. When floodwaters are rising, Redi Ant moves to higher ground. Redi Ant knows you should never touch, drink, swim or play in floodwaters.

Redi Ant teaches us that tornadoes have a distinctive funnel shape. If you see a tornado coming, you should seek shelter underground, if you can't then find shelter in a first floor room without windows. Center room closets can offer some protection in a tornado.

Redi Ant knows that hurricanes are rated, number 1 through 5, and Category 5 is the worst. The official hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30 of each year, but Redi Ant reminds us, floods can happen at any time. During a hurricane, Redi Ant covers his windows with plywood to protect his family and his house.

If caught in a fire, Redi Ant knows to crawl on his hands and knees, where there is less smoke. If Redi Ant's clothes catch on fire he stops moving, drops on the ground and rolls to put out the fire. In case of emergencies, including a fire, call 911. Redi Ant changes the batteries in his smoke detectors at least twice a year.

Every Redi Ant family should have an emergency supply kit an evacuation plan ready at all times. Every house should have an evacuation plan, and every member of the house should practice the plan. Non-perishable foods last a long time without the need for refrigeration. If you have been in a disaster and want to feel better, you should talk to your parents, write about how you feel or draw about what has happened. Redi Ant is never afraid to talk about disasters.

You should listen to the proper authorities and follow their instructions.

Remember: Be prepared and act before the emergency begins.
